On Monday, President Droupadi Murmu reached the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh by visiting Triveni Sangam where she took a holy dip in the water to perform puja. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel together with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath escorted the president on her arrival earlier in the day. The spiritual event is currently hosting millions of participants while the President makes her important visit.
The Maha Kumbh Mela attracts devotees from across the globe as the world’s biggest spiritual gathering which started on January 13. The religious event stretches from January 13 until February 26 with its last day coinciding with Mahashivratri. On January 29 the ritual on Mauni Amavasya attracted eight crore devotees, apart from that more than 44 crore pilgrims have already participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela. This religious gathering happens every 12 years as people see it as an opportunity to seek purification while growing spiritually as they devote themselves to god.

President Murmu visits other sites

President Murmu proceeded to the Digital Kumbh Anubhav Centre after completing her holy bath where she experienced the Mela through digital modern technology. The President had organised prayer visits to Akshayavat and the Bade Hanuman Temple as part of his religious plans. The Akshayavat tree stands as a symbol of immortality in Hindu traditions because it holds important religious significance among these sanctified sites.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed similar religious rituals at Triveni Sangam when he previously visited the Maha Kumbh Mela. During his visit, Modi chanted religious mantras with rudraksha beads in hand. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several other eminent leaders and celebrities have shown their participation in the Mela as it stands among India’s essential religious and cultural events.

Security tightened during high-profile visits

Amidst these significant spiritual activities, security measures in Prayagraj have been tightened due to the high-profile visits, resulting in traffic disruptions in the surrounding areas. Several routes have faced severe congestion, with authorities implementing a one-way traffic system and halting vehicle movement in some areas. This highlights the overwhelming turnout at the Mela, where the devotion and faith of millions converge.
President Murmu’s visit marks her participation in one of the most sacred events for Hindus. With more than 40 crore devotees already making their way to the Sangam, the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela stands as a testament to the enduring significance of this spiritual gathering. The President’s engagement with the event reflects the country’s deep-rooted cultural and religious traditions, which continue to resonate with millions.
