Police Uncover Murder Scheme Behind Jackal Attack Claim in Bihar

The CSR Journal Magazine

A chilling case has emerged from the Katihar district of Bihar, where a 75-year-old man allegedly attempted to disguise his wife’s murder as a jackal attack. The incident took place on April 2 in the Alampur Diara area, involving 70-year-old Ramni Devi. Preliminary reports indicated that she had been attacked by a jackal while cutting grass in a maize field.

Following the incident, Ramni Devi was reported to have succumbed to her injuries during medical treatment. Her grandson initially filed a complaint with local authorities, asserting that the death resulted from an animal attack. Subsequently, her family conducted her last rites in accordance with the traditional practices.

Police Investigation and Breakthrough

The local police commenced an investigation immediately after receiving the complaint. Authorities visited the site where the alleged attack took place, prompting a deeper examination of the circumstances surrounding Ramni Devi’s death. A significant development transpired when the forensic science lab team discovered a sharp knife near the scene, challenging the initial claim of an animal bite.

This discovery provided crucial evidence that the elderly woman had not fallen victim to wildlife but had instead been fatally wounded by a sharp-edged weapon. As the investigation unfolded, police interrogated family members, leading to the revelation of a more sinister reality.

During questioning, it came to light that Dhaneshwar Singh, Ramni Devi’s husband, had wielded the knife during an altercation while they were working in the maize field. The assault left her critically injured, and she ultimately passed away in hospital care. Investigators further uncovered that the couple’s grandsons allegedly aided in covering up the crime.

Arrests and Confessions

In the wake of these findings, police arrested all three individuals implicated: Dhaneshwar Singh and his two grandsons. Each of the accused has reportedly been sent to jail. Barsoi SDPO Ajay Kumar confirmed the arrests and noted that the motive behind the murder stemmed from personal enmity between the elderly couple, which escalated into violence during their time in the field.

Additionally, the investigation revealed that the grandsons hid the murder weapon in the maize field, which further solidified the false narrative that a jackal was responsible for their grandmother’s death. This action appears to have been an attempt to mislead the authorities and manipulate the circumstances surrounding the crime.

All three detainees have allegedly confessed to their roles in the crime during police interrogation. Their admissions point to a calculated effort to obfuscate the truth while simultaneously exposing a troubling dynamic within the family.
