On March 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Samrat Samprati Museum at the Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra in Koba, Gandhinagar, in celebration of Bhagwan Mahavir Jayanti. The event was attended by notable figures including Jain Acharya Rashtrasant Shri Padmasagar Surishwarji, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of preserving India’s rich heritage through such institutions, which serve as a vital link to the country’s cultural and spiritual ethos.

During the inauguration, PM Modi underscored the significance of Emperor Samprati, describing him as a pivotal figure who harmonized the philosophical and scholarly traditions of India. He pointed out that while many great thinkers have emerged throughout history, the true ideals of power and truth are paramount. The museum pays tribute to this legacy by showcasing the core values of Jain philosophy and culture.

A Showcase of India’s Cultural Diversity

The museum features seven galleries that illustrate the diverse cultural tapestry of India. These galleries are designed to depict the Navpad concepts, which encompass the teachings of Naihar, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, Sadhu, Darshan, Gyan, Charitra, and Tap, along with narratives surrounding the Tirthankaras. The Prime Minister noted that a comprehensive understanding of knowledge can foster harmony and service among people.

PM Modi called for students, researchers, and other inquisitive individuals from around the globe to visit the museum. He mentioned that the insights and messages captured within its walls are relevant not just for India but for humanity as a whole, especially in the context of current global challenges. The preservation efforts demonstrated in the museum contribute to a narrative of peace and co-existence.

Highlighting the importance of safeguarding ancient manuscripts, PM Modi referred to the ‘Gyan Bharatam Mission’ launched by the government, which aims to digitize and conserve thousands of manuscripts. He remarked on the crucial role that common citizens played in preserving these cultural treasures over generations. The museum now holds over three lakh manuscripts on materials such as palm leaves and bhojpatra, embodying the rich literary traditions of India.

Ongoing Cultural Heritage Projects

The Prime Minister also discussed various ongoing projects aimed at preserving and promoting India’s heritage, including a maritime museum in Lothal and the upcoming ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum’ in Delhi. He emphasised that efforts to restore ancient temples and promote practices like Ayurveda and Yoga are part of a broader commitment to uphold India’s cultural identity.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel paid tribute to Bhagwan Mahavir Swami at the event and praised the Prime Minister’s dedication to instilling pride in India’s cultural heritage. He noted that the museum is designed to provide a living glimpse of Jainism and Indian culture, serving as a key educational and cultural resource for future generations.
