The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has granted a reprieve to nine Congress workers, allowing them time to submit their responses to a plea filed by the Delhi Police. The plea challenges the bail decisions related to the AI Summit protest incident. The court has postponed the hearing regarding the bail appeal for accused Udai Bhanu Chib since the case is currently under consideration in the Delhi High Court.
Bail Granted to Accused Individuals
Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma announced the postponement and set April 23 for further proceedings. Udai Bhanu Chib received bail on February 28, while the other nine accused were granted bail a day later, on March 1. The individuals comprising this group include Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Narsimha Yadav, Ajay Singh, Saurabh, Arbaz Khan, Ajay Kumar Vimal, Raja Gujar, and Jitendra Yadav.
Police Challenge to Bail Orders
The Delhi Police have challenged the bail orders issued by the Duty Magistrates for all individuals involved. Representing the accused, Advocates Roopesh Singh Bhadauria and Chitwan Godara were present during the proceedings. On February 28, the bail for Udai Bhanu Chib was initially granted; however, the order was immediately stayed following an appeal from the Delhi Police to the Session Court.
Developments in Bail Proceedings
After the session court’s intervention, the legal team representing Chib approached the Delhi High Court to contest the decision. Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra presented their case, which resulted in the suspension of the session court’s order. On the initial request for custody extension, Duty Magistrate Vanshita Mehta had denied the police’s application and granted Chib bail on February 28.
