Pakistan Slams Netanyahu’s ‘Hexagon of Alliances’ Plan, Cites Threat to Muslim Unity

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Senate of Pakistan unanimously adopted a resolution on Tuesday that criticizes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to establish a “hexagon of alliances.” The resolution describes this initiative as an endeavor by the Israeli leadership to undermine the unity and integrity of the “Muslim Ummah.”

Netanyahu announced that Israel intends to create a network of alliances that includes India, various Arab nations, African countries, and states around the Mediterranean. He asserted that the purpose of these alliances is to enhance cooperation among nations with similar perspectives and to counter radical factions in the region.

Details of the Israeli Initiative

Netanyahu elaborated on the concept of a “hexagon” during a statement, explaining that it aims to establish a comprehensive system within or around the Middle East. He indicated that this system would unify countries that perceive regional challenges and objectives in a similar light, contrasting them with what he referred to as “radical axes.”

He specifically mentioned both the radical Shiite axis and a developing radical Sunni axis, emphasizing that nations sharing a common outlook could potentially reap significant benefits from such cooperation, which would contribute to their strength and future.

Context of the Resolution

In this context, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently visiting Israel, where he delivered a special address to the Knesset, becoming the first Indian prime minister to do so.

The resolution, introduced in the Senate by Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), condemned the Israeli leadership’s provocative actions and statements that pose a threat to both regional and international stability. It particularly criticized Netanyahu’s comments aimed at forming alliances against Muslim nations.

Condemnation of Israeli Policies

Furthermore, the Senate resolution condemned Israel’s efforts to challenge the “sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity” of neighboring Islamic nations. It explicitly rejected Israel’s recent acknowledgment of Somaliland’s independence in Somalia. The resolution also voiced disapproval of Israel’s ongoing violations of the Gaza ceasefire and its disregard for international law, as well as commitments outlined by the United Nations and its related bodies.

Concerns Over Regional Stability

The resolution expressed strong concerns regarding the actions of the Israeli leadership, which it described as detrimental to the unity and integrity of the Muslim Ummah on both political and ideological levels.

It dismissed any attempts to alter the legal or historical context of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, condemn settlement expansions, endorse settler violence, or forcibly relocate Palestinians. In light of these actions, the Senate urged the international community to put an end to Israeli impunity and to ensure accountability for its actions perceived as crimes against humanity.

Call for Humanitarian Support

The Senate also demanded a complete withdrawal by Israel from the occupied territories and called for increased humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. This assistance is expected to be facilitated through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, alongside a focus on early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

In reaffirming its longstanding support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, the Senate emphasized the establishment of an independent State of Palestine based on borders prior to 1967, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif designated as its capital.
