Mild tremors were experienced across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday afternoon, following an earthquake that originated in neighbouring Pakistan. The quake struck at approximately 1:00 pm, prompting brief panic among residents, although no injuries or damage have been reported.
According to officials from the seismic monitoring department, the earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale. It originated at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the surface. The epicentre was located in Pakistan, at coordinates 33.63°N latitude and 72.46°E longitude.
Many Areas in Kashmir Valley Felt the Tremors
Several areas in the Kashmir Valley felt the tremors, with reports confirming that people briefly stepped out of buildings as a precaution. Despite the tremors being clearly noticeable in many regions, authorities confirmed that there were no casualties or structural damage as a result of the quake.
Emergency services and disaster response units were alerted following the tremors, though no intervention was required as the situation remained under control.
