Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday called for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, expressing hope that India could play a significant role in easing tensions and facilitating peace.

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah stressed the need for a ceasefire and said that India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is well-positioned to contribute to diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.

Calls For Ceasefire And Diplomacy

“We want the war to end soon, and the role that the Prime Minister can play in this, no one else can do, because his relations are good with all countries. I think there should be an announcement of a ceasefire and the war should end right here,” Abdullah said.

His remarks come amid rising global concern over escalating tensions in West Asia, with leaders across the world urging restraint and dialogue to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

Abdullah underscored the importance of diplomatic engagement, suggesting that India’s balanced relations with multiple global players could help bring warring sides to the negotiating table.

India Steps Up Global Outreach

The call for peace coincides with India’s ongoing diplomatic outreach on the issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been engaging with global leaders to address key international challenges, including the West Asia conflict.

According to Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the Prime Minister held discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on March 28.

During the talks, both leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia and discussed the need for stability in the region.

Focus On Energy Security And Trade Routes

The discussions also highlighted concerns over attacks on energy infrastructure and their potential impact on global markets. Prime Minister Modi condemned such attacks, emphasising the importance of safeguarding critical assets.

Both sides also discussed ensuring free navigation and the security of key shipping lanes, which are vital for global trade and energy supplies.

India’s engagement with Saudi Arabia, a key player in the region, reflects its broader strategy of promoting dialogue, strengthening bilateral ties, and contributing to regional stability.

Officials said the Prime Minister will continue to engage with world leaders on pressing global issues, underlining India’s growing role in shaping conversations around international security and economic stability.
