The National Medical Commission (NMC) has proclaimed that medical colleges and institutions across India should not permit students to take leave on June 20 and June 21, 2026. This decision has been made in anticipation of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, scheduled for June 21, 2026. The NMC’s directive highlights the intensified efforts to ensure that the examination is conducted fairly and without any malpractice.

The NMC’s advisory follows previous incidents where students allegedly engaged in activities compromising the examination’s integrity. Authorities are particularly concerned about maintaining the sanctity of the examination process. Thus, educational institutions are being urged to take preemptive measures to ensure an ethical examination environment.

Concerns Over Examination Integrity

The NMC has pointed out that past instances involved medical college students who were reportedly implicated in actions detrimental to the credibility of national-level entrance examinations. In light of these concerns, the NMC has instructed institutions to enhance vigilance and discourage participation in any activities that could adversely affect the NEET UG re-examination’s integrity.

Institutions are encouraged to promote awareness among students regarding ethical conduct. Guidelines for Monitoring and Compliance

As per the advisory, medical colleges are required to increase monitoring of student activities during the examination days. The NMC believes that educational institutions play a crucial role in preventing potential malpractice through proactive engagement.

Furthermore, the directive stresses that student leave should be exceptionally limited during the two days leading up to and including the examination. This measure is intended to curtail any misuse of leave provisions and to ensure the transparent conduct of the NEET UG re-examination. Exceptions to this leave policy will only be granted in cases backed by valid justifications.

This decision has been communicated to the deans and principals of medical colleges across the nation. Copies of the directive have also been distributed to the departments of medical education in all states and Union Territories to ensure proper compliance with the new regulations.
