Nine-Year-Old Delhi Girl Collapses in Classroom and Dies

The CSR Journal Magazine

A nine-year-old student from Class 3 tragically died after collapsing in her classroom at Lovely Heritage School in Mayur Vihar Phase 2, East Delhi. The incident, which occurred on the morning of October 5, 2026, has prompted significant scrutiny regarding the school’s emergency medical protocols. The girl’s family has alleged that she was not provided with timely first aid or CPR following her collapse.

Footage from the school’s CCTV cameras captures the moment the girl entered her classroom after a games period, where she suddenly fell to the floor. Prior to her collapse, she was seen placing her hand on her waist, seemingly indicating fatigue. The video further shows her class teacher rushing to her aid and attempting to lift her onto a chair, but the child appeared to be unconscious.

The teacher quickly exited the classroom, returning shortly after to carry the girl for medical assistance. Additional footage shows the girl walking upstairs with her peers just moments before the incident. Following her collapse, school staff transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was later referred to Malik Hospital in Nirman Vihar, where she was pronounced dead.

Medical Response and Family Allegations

According to school principal Bhawna Malik, the child suffered a cardiac arrest, and immediate efforts were made to rush her to the hospital. Malik expressed regret over the incident, stating, “We take good care of the kids. This child suffered a cardiac arrest and was immediately taken to the hospital.” She further mentioned that a nurse was present on the premises and noted an injury to the child’s chin, which was reportedly bleeding.

The family has raised serious concerns regarding the adequacy of the school’s medical response. They have alleged that despite paying substantial fees, the institution lacked sufficient medical facilities to manage such emergencies. Moreover, they questioned why CPR was not administered to the child immediately after she collapsed.

In response to these allegations, the principal stated that the staff initially believed the child’s loss of consciousness was related to her chin injury and did not consider other possibilities at that moment. This explanation has not alleviated the concerns of the family, who are seeking clarity on the emergency protocols in place at the school.

Ongoing Investigation and Broader Implications

The police have taken possession of the girl’s body for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to clarify the exact cause of death. As the investigation unfolds, the circumstances surrounding the girl’s passing will be scrutinised. The family’s allegations regarding the school’s emergency response will likely remain a focal point in the inquiry.

This incident has sparked broader discussions about the preparedness of educational institutions in Delhi to handle medical emergencies. Questions have arisen regarding whether teachers and staff are adequately trained in CPR and first aid, as well as whether schools possess the necessary medical equipment and trained personnel to respond effectively.

As the community mourns the loss of a young student, the incident has highlighted critical gaps in emergency preparedness within schools. The outcome of the police investigation and the awaited post-mortem report will be pivotal in determining the next steps for the family and the institution involved.
