NIA Arrests Seventh Accused in Red Fort Car Blast Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested the seventh person involved in the Red Fort car blast that happened on November 10. The person arrested is Faridabad-based and has allegedly provided shelter to terrorist Umar-un Nabi. The accused person is identified as Soyab from Dhauj in Faridabad. As per NIA, Soyab had not only given shelter to Umar, but also gave logistical support just before the explosive-laden car detonated near the Red Fort Metro Station, killing 7 people and injuring many. Police are still on the lookout to hunt all involved in the blast.

Soyab has a history; he is linked to one of the “white-collar” terror modules that was earlier uncovered by the Jammu & Kashmir Police. It is believed that the ‘white-collar’ network has deeper roots in Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The earlier arrested accused, Amir Rashid Ali, had arranged a safe house for Umar-un Nabi.

Who is Umar-un Nabi?

On November 10 evening, a high-intensity explosion happened in a Hyundai i20 that was parked right beside the Red Fort Metro Station. This deadly explosion took place right after eight people were arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives were seized. The arrested accused are linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, as per the authorities. The mastermind and person behind the blast, Umar-un Nabi, a doctor from Pulwama and an assistant professor at Al-Falah University, was the suicide bomber. Nabi was the one who was driving the explosive-laden car that blew up beside the Red Fort. He has been described as one of the most radicalised operatives in the network.

What is Nabi’s link with the White-Collar module?

He has a long tie with the ‘White-Collar’ module that first came under scanner by Srinagar Police after the arrest of Dr Muzammil Ganaie. After 8 people were arrested, there was panic in the group and this led to the execution of the VBIED (Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device) prematurely. As per the officials, the ‘White-Collar’ module had planned an explosion on December 6 on the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary, but since the arrests happened in Srinagar and Faridabad, the plan was prematurely executed. As per the investigation, the network’s core members are three doctors — Ganaie, Umar-un Nabi, and Muzzaffar Rather (all three are absconding) — they have been conducting training, making recruitment and tracking the movement of explosives.
