A total of nearly 100 pilgrims from Maharashtra, who found themselves stranded in Kathmandu due to unexpected flash floods in Nepal, were successfully evacuated and returned to their home state. The Bihar government’s involvement began following an official request from the Maharashtra administration, highlighting a cooperative effort amidst the crisis. The Bihar government stated that the operation was driven by humanitarian concerns, with a focus on ensuring the safe transit of the pilgrims from the Nepal border back to Maharashtra.

Pilgrims Safely Escorted to Sitamarhi

Following their safe arrival in Sitamarhi, the pilgrims were subsequently transported to Patna. They reached the state capital at approximately 2.30 am on August 29. In Patna, the district administration organised accommodations for the pilgrims, ensuring that they had access to food and lodging. Additionally, medical check-ups and other vital services were made available to address any immediate health concerns.

To facilitate their return to Maharashtra, the Bihar government engaged with the Railway Board in New Delhi. Following effective coordination between the Chief Secretary of Bihar and the Chairman of the Railway Board, arrangements were made to attach two extra coaches to the Patna-Purna Express. This special arrangement enabled the safe departure of the pilgrims, who embarked on their journey back to Maharashtra at around 7.30 am on August 29.

Gratitude Expressed by Pilgrims

Upon their successful return to Maharashtra, the pilgrims expressed their sincere gratitude towards the Bihar government, as well as the district administrations of Sitamarhi and Patna. They acknowledged the authorities’ swift response and their empathetic and organised relief measures, which played a crucial role in ensuring a safe and dignified return for all individuals involved in the operation. This collaborative effort not only provided immediate assistance but also reinforced the importance of cooperative governance during emergencies.

This incident underscores the significance of inter-state collaboration in times of crisis and highlights the effectiveness of prompt administrative actions.
