Mother of Baruipur Rape-Murder Suspect Rejects Body After Police Encounter

The CSR Journal Magazine

The mother of Prabhas Mondal, the suspect in a rape and murder case from Baruipur, has reportedly declined to claim his body following his death in a police encounter on July 8. This encounter occurred during a reconstruction of the crime scene, leading to significant developments in the ongoing investigation.

At approximately 8 am on the day of the incident, police from the Baruipur district reportedly informed Sandhya Mondal that her son had died. Despite their offer to take her to the hospital, she chose to remain at home, citing her husband’s ill health. Her reaction has raised eyebrows due to its apparent detachment from the gravity of the situation.

Mother’s Statement on Son’s Actions

Sandhya Mondal publicly articulated her stance on her son’s demise, emphasising that his death was a direct result of his alleged criminal actions. She indicated that she would not accept his body due to his involvement in serious offences, stating, “The work my son did, he received his punishment for that.” Her comments underline a complex personal and emotional response to a situation that has garnered significant public attention.

In further remarks, she condemned her son’s actions, referring to them as “a terrible crime,” and expressed a lack of interest in the treatment of his remains. Sandhya Mondal’s refusal to engage with the after-effects of the police operation highlights her attempt to dissociate from the actions that led to his death.

This detachment is part of a broader narrative surrounding Prabhas Mondal, who reportedly attempted to disarm a police officer during the reconstruction of the crime scene. Police precision during this encounter is currently under scrutiny as it occurred in connection with a serious case that has caused widespread concern in the community.

Details of the Police Encounter

On July 5, during the attempted reconstruction of the crime scene involving Mondal, he is alleged to have tried to snatch a service weapon from one of the officers. This resulted in a confrontation in which police fired back, reportedly causing critical injuries that led to his death after he was transported to a medical facility.

The local victim, a minor girl, had been missing since July 1 and was later discovered dead in a pond. Her disappearance and tragic death triggered protests and widespread outrage in Baruipur, demanding accountability and justice. Following these events, police officials stated that considerable advances had been made in the investigation, with two individuals apprehended in association with the case.

Further efforts to address the case are being undertaken, including the formation of a Special Investigation Team, as mentioned by local MP Saayoni Ghosh. This response indicates the depth of concern within the community regarding the handling of such serious allegations and the overall safety of local residents.
