Mizoram Police Conduct Multiple Operations, Seizing Drugs Valued Over Rs 25 Crore

Mizoram police confiscated substantial quantities of narcotics valued at more than Rs 25 crore through various operations in recent days. On March 31, a team from the Aizawl District Special Branch intercepted two Myanmar nationals, Thanglianmung, aged 26, and Manglianthang, aged 23, in the Tawngtaimual area of Zemabawk. A search of their belongings uncovered nine soap cases containing 104 grams of suspected heroin, with an estimated value of around Rs 20.4 lakhs.

The authorities reported that a case has been filed at the Bawngkawn Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Investigations into their connections and trafficking routes are ongoing.

Significant Discoveries by Saitual Police

On March 29, the Special Team of Saitual Police made another considerable seizure when they conducted checks at the outskirts of Keifang. They recovered 242.79 grams of suspected heroin, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 48,55,800, from Md Eliyach Hussain, a 46-year-old individual driving from Manipur towards Aizawl. A case has now been registered at the Saitual Police Station, with further investigation proceeding under sections 21(b) and 25 of the NDPS Act.

Additionally, on March 28, another operation yielded a seizure of 1.927 kg of suspected heroin, contained within 177 soap cases. This discovery occurred when Mangminlun, aged 26, and Ginlemlal, aged 24, were stopped while driving a vehicle from Manipur to Aizawl. Similar to the previous case, legal action has been initiated under sections 21(c), 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act, with ongoing investigations.

Another seizure took place on March 27, when the Saitual police stopped a vehicle driven by Zamchinlam, aged 27, alongside an occupant, Dothanglen, aged 36. A search revealed 200 soap cases of suspected heroin weighing 2.298 kg and valued at Rs 4.596 crore. This incident has also led to a case being registered at the Saitual Police Station under sections 21(c), 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Seizure of Methamphetamine and Arms

In a separate operation on March 25, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) intercepted a truck near Tuirial Bridge, recovering 19.836 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets, known as Yaba, valued at Rs 15.86 crore. The drugs were discovered hidden within a fabricated chamber in the vehicle’s headliner. Additionally, officials recovered a US-manufactured handgun, two magazines, and 40 live rounds of 9mm ammunition. Subsequent to this operation, the driver, Lalhnehzova, aged 23, was arrested, and a case has been registered at the Special Narcotic Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act.

On April 1, a Special Team from Khawzawl Police apprehended a juvenile at the Tuisenphai Check Gate, recovering two soap cases containing 23 grams of suspected heroin with a value of Rs 4,60,000. The juvenile was subsequently presented to the Principal Magistrate at the Juvenile Justice Board in Khawzawl for further legal proceedings.

Additionally, on March 31, another vehicle was intercepted at the Tuisenphai Check Gate, resulting in the recovery of 20 cases of foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 8 lakh. The items were seized, and the consignments were forwarded to the Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology in Champhai for further actions.
