Mamata Banerjee Campaigns for TMC Candidate Sayantika Banerjee in Baranagar

The CSR Journal Magazine

On April 9, 2026, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conducted an election rally in support of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate, Sayantika Banerjee, who is contesting from the Baranagar Assembly constituency. The event attracted a significant turnout from the party’s supporters as the West Bengal Assembly elections approach.

The campaign featured a vibrant roadshow that underscored the TMC’s efforts to galvanise voter support. Local party leaders and activists rallied alongside the chief minister, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and commitment from the ground level in Baranagar.

In an earlier statement on January 31, Banerjee expressed her discontent regarding the electoral rolls, specifically the exclusion of many valid voters. She indicated plans to take legal action if substantial progress on restoring these names was not achieved following the Special Intensive Revision process. Her determination to advocate for voter rights was clearly communicated.

Bhanerjee Files Nomination for Bhabanipur Seat

On the same day as the rally for Sayantika Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination papers at the Survey Building for the Bhabanipur assembly seat, preparing for the 2026 State Assembly elections. She is expected to face a robust challenge from the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Following her nomination submission, Banerjee addressed her supporters and highlighted her concerns regarding the electoral roll discrepancies. She stated that while around 32 lakh names had been restored, more than 58 lakh names remained unresolved, a situation she found alarming. Banerjee emphasised the importance of ensuring every citizen’s right to vote and indicated that the TMC would pursue further legal recourse if necessary.

Banerjee’s campaign rhetoric reinforced her commitment to the constituency and highlighted her long-standing relationship with the region. She expressed gratitude towards the residents of Bhabanipur and communicated her optimism regarding the TMC’s prospects in the upcoming elections.

Prime Minister Modi Announces Promises for West Bengal

In a parallel political development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a set of six assurances aimed at enhancing administrative accountability in West Bengal. During a public rally, Modi articulated his vision for a government that would ostensibly believe in accountability and maintaining law and order.

Modi made commitments regarding the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, which is expected to benefit state employees financially. He emphasised that restoring faith in governance would be a priority and promised to address various issues, including corruption cases that allegedly occurred during the TMC’s administration.

The Prime Minister’s announcements come at a crucial time as West Bengal prepares for elections, highlighting the political tug-of-war between the TMC and the BJP. Polling for the state’s 294-member Assembly is scheduled to occur in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the counting of ballots set for May 4.
