Malda district Police seizes brown sugar worth Rs 1.5 crores which was being smuggled to Bihar

In a major success ahead of Diwali, West Bengal’s Malda district police have recovered brown sugar in a huge amount. An attempt was being made to smuggle the illegal drugs into neighbouring state Bihar on Sunday night, but the police foiled the plot. A huge amount of drugs was recovered from Malda’s Vaishnavnagar police station area, the market value of which is about Rs 1.5 crores. A young woman from Bihar has been arrested. The name of the accused is Kanchan Devi.

According to police sources, a tip-off was received about drug smuggling from a secret source. After that, the Vaishnavnagar police station conducted a raid. Late on Sunday night, a woman was seen roaming suspiciously in the Maiti More area of ​​Khejuriaghat. The investigators reached there and started questioning her. Inconsistencies were found in the woman’s words. The bag she was carrying was searched. And investigators were in for a shock! The banned drug brown sugar was found in a huge quantity in the bag. After that, she was arrested and taken to the police station.

Drugs were being smuggled to Bihar

According to police sources, a total of 1 kg 343 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the woman. The market value of the drug is estimated to be about Rs 1.5 crore. Further inquiries revealed that the arrested person is not a resident of this state. She is a native of Bihar’s Bhagalpur. The initial assumption of the police is that the arrested woman was collecting drugs from Kaliachak in Malda and taking them to Bihar for smuggling. The arrested woman was produced before the Malda District Court on Monday and Police custody has been sought for questioning.

 

Major drug trafficking crackdown in Tripura, 896 kg ganja, 90,000 bottles of banned syrup seized

Tripura has witnessed one of its largest anti-narcotics crackdowns in recent times, with security agencies seizing massive quantities of illegal drugs over the past ten days, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Saturday.

The statement came a day after authorities recovered 90,000 bottles of banned cough syrup from a goods train at Jirania railway station in West Tripura — a major bust that has drawn national attention.

Sharing details of the operation on his X handle, Chief Minister Saha said, “In the last ten days, coordinated operations by the police and intelligence agencies have led to the recovery of 896 kg of ganja, 90,817 bottles of banned cough syrup, 180 Yaba tablets, and 27.78 grams of heroin.”

He lauded the Tripura Police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and intelligence units for their relentless efforts to curb the growing drug menace in the state. “The administration will continue to take strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade. Our goal remains to make Tripura a drug-free state,” Saha affirmed.
