The team behind the film Gondhal is launching a vigorous campaign to promote the movie to Academy members, following its selection as India’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards in 2027. This initiative is aimed at securing votes for the prestigious awards ceremony. The producers plan to start paid previews in select theatres across India from October 10, 2026.

Details of the Film and Production Team

Produced by Diksha Davakhar under the Davakhar Films banner, Gondhal is directed by Santosh Davakhar. The film features a cast that includes Kishor Kadam, Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, Nishad Bhoir, and Anuj Prabhu. It is described as a Marathi psychological thriller that delves into cultural themes and the intricacies of the human mind. The production team has expressed excitement over the upcoming worldwide release.

The film’s producers made the announcement on their social media platform, stating their eagerness to share the film with audiences and cinephiles. They have articulated their belief in the strength of the film, asserting that it provides a unique cultural perspective while addressing complex psychological themes.

In a conversation with ANI about the movie’s selection, director Santosh Davakhar shared that he and his team had remained confident in their creation. He noted, “We were confident that the entire Gondhal team had made a good product. For the last year, we have been preparing for this.” This preparation included a strong focus on visibility and outreach to the Academy’s voting members.

Director’s Vision and Responsibilities

The director also noted the challenges ahead, as the team aims to garner between 6,000 to 7,000 votes from Academy members. They plan to undertake various efforts over the coming months to enhance the film’s visibility and appeal among voters. Scheduled previews and targeted campaigns are part of this extensive outreach.

Davakhar highlighted the film’s conception, explaining that his goal was to create content that resonates with various segments of the Indian film industry. He expressed hope that Gondhal would eventually capture the interest of key figures within the cinematic community. In doing so, he aims to foster a broader appreciation of the film within different layers of the industry.

Focus on Representation Rather Than Competition

When discussing the Oscar nomination, Davakhar specified that he does not perceive the selection process as a competition with other Indian films. Rather, he sees Gondhal as a representative of the entire Indian film industry, showcasing its diversity and richness. This perspective reinforces his commitment to delivering a quality product that can garner the attention it deserves.

The film, which has a runtime of approximately two hours, was submitted for consideration by the Film Federation of India. Gondhal’s narrative and artistic merit were recognised as distinguishing factors that contributed to its selection.

As the release date approaches, expectations surrounding Gondhal are building. The campaign will play a crucial role in defining the film’s journey toward the Oscars and its potential impact on the global stage.
