Indian Boxer Parveen Clinches Women’s 65 kg Gold at Asian Games 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian boxer Parveen Hooda achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the gold medal in the women’s 65 kg category at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on October 2, 2026. This victory against Chen Nien-Chen from Chinese Taipei was secured by a close split decision of 3-2. This gold medal represents the second boxing title for India on this day, following Lovlina Borgohain’s earlier success in the women’s 75 kg event.

Parveen’s triumph comes after a challenging period, having missed out on a medal at the previous Asian Games in 2022 due to a doping whereabouts failure. Overcoming significant pressure, her win over a former world champion serves as a redemption for the boxer. This achievement also brings India’s medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to 73, comprising 13 gold, 25 silver, and 35 bronze medals.

The bout began with a cautious approach from both competitors. Although both exchanged punches effectively, Parveen took an early lead by winning the first round with a score of 5-0. The second round saw both boxers intensify their efforts, with each landing notable shots. However, Chen managed to secure the round, making it a tight contest as they moved into the final round.

Medal Success in Sepaktakraw

In another significant achievement, India’s sepaktakraw men’s quadrant clinched a bronze medal after a loss to Japan in the semi-finals of the competition. The team, comprising Malemnganba Singh Sorokhaibam, Ram Kumar Sharma, Bobby Kumar, and Akash Yumnam, was edged out with a score of 0-2 (12-15, 13-15).

This bronze medal marks the third for India in sepaktakraw at the Asian Games, adding to the earlier two bronze medals won in the men’s and women’s team regu events. The Indian team had a strong performance, notably defeating the World Cup winners, Myanmar, in the group stages, ensuring that they walked away with a medal.

The presence of sepaktakraw on India’s medal tally enhances the nation’s overall performance at the Games, as the sport continues to gain recognition and support in the country. This commendable showing reflects the dedication and determination of the athletes involved.

Additional Achievements in Archery and Sailing

India’s success at the Asian Games was further highlighted by an impressive victory in women’s recurve archery. The trio of Kumkum Mohod, Ankita Bhakat, and Kirti Sharma made history by winning the gold medal after defeating South Korea 5-3. This victory marks India’s first-ever medal in this archery discipline at the continental level.

In the sailing events, Nethra Kumanan added a bronze medal to India’s tally in the women’s dinghy category. After a challenging first race, she demonstrated resilience by securing a podium position in the final race, successfully finishing level on points with Hong Kong’s Stephanie Louise Norton but earning the medal based on superior head-to-head performance.

Additionally, the Indian men’s recurve archery team captured a silver medal after losing to South Korea 1-5 in the final. Despite an earlier upset, the team was unable to replicate the women’s success against a consistent South Korean side. Overall, these achievements signify a promising performance in a range of sports for India at the Asian Games.
