Maharashtra Assembly’s Resolution to Award Bharat Ratna to Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed a historic resolution. Under this resolution they recommend the conferral of the highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, to the revolutionary social reformers Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule.
This resolution marks as a significant step towards recognizing their immense contributions to society and enhancing the prestige of the Bharat Ratna award. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed his joy, emphasizing the importance of this decision in reflecting the collective sentiment of the people of India.

Ajit Pawar commended all members of the legislative assembly for their cooperation in ensuring the unanimous approval of the resolution. He stated that the decision respects the sentiments of the people across the nation and further elevates the honor associated with the Bharat Ratna award.
Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule’s pioneering efforts in opening the first school for girls in Pune and providing educational opportunities to women have left a lasting impact. Their vision and hard work paved the way for women to take up roles in various fields such as agriculture, education, science, politics, and social service, thereby contributing to the country’s growth and development.
Deputy CM Pawar emphasized that the couple’s extraordinary work in bringing education to the marginalized, downtrodden, and oppressed sections of society is unparalleled. As a result, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule will always remain “Mahatma” for the farming, working-class, and all citizens of the country.

“Their extraordinary work in bringing education to the underprivileged, marginalized, and Bahujan communities remains unparalleled. Hence, they will always be regarded as ‘Mahatma’ by farmers, labourers, and all citizens,” the NCP chief said.
“Today, women hold responsible positions in various fields such as agriculture, education, knowledge, science, research, space, politics, and social service, actively contributing to the nation’s progress. The credit for the transformation goes entirely to their visionary approach and tireless efforts,” Pawar said.
