Heartbreaking Suicide: Why Did a Family of Four, Including Two Teens, Die by Sulphas Poisoning in MP?

The CSR Journal Magazine

A heartbreaking case of alleged suicide involving four members of a single family has shaken Tehar village in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. The victims, including two teenagers and a 70-year-old woman, reportedly consumed Sulphas tablets during the early hours of Saturday. Police say the motive behind the act is still under investigation.

Victims Identified by Police

The deceased have been identified as Manohar Lodhi (45), his daughter Shivani (18), son Ankit (16), and Manohar’s mother Phulrani Lodhi (70). The incident occurred around 3 am at their residence in Tehar, located around 12 kilometres from the district headquarters.

Khurai Urban police station in-charge Yogendra Singh Dangi confirmed the deaths, saying, “Two family members died on the spot, while the other two succumbed during or before being shifted for further treatment.”

Siblings and Grandmother Died Early

According to police, Phulrani Lodhi and Ankit died at home before emergency services arrived. Shivani and Manohar were rushed to Khurai Civil Hospital in a critical state. On-duty doctor Varsha Kesharwani stated,”Two of them were brought dead,” she added.

“As the girl and her father were in serious condition, they were referred to the Sagar district hospital. The girl died before she could be shifted, while her father breathed his last during transit in the ambulance,” she added.

Family Member Raised Alarm

Nandram Singh Lodhi, Manohar’s brother, told police that he heard Manohar vomiting at around 3 am and immediately informed a neighbour. Together, they called an ambulance. Unfortunately, by the time help arrived, two family members had already passed away.

Police added that Manohar’s wife had recently gone to her maternal home, though the relevance of this detail is still unclear. Authorities have not found any suicide note and are investigating all possible angles, including financial stress or family disputes.

Community in Shock

The incident has left the village and local authorities deeply disturbed. Investigators have not ruled out a suicide pact but are waiting for more evidence. Officials urge anyone experiencing distress to seek professional mental health support.
