The CSR Journal Magazine

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced that the state has successfully overcome the Naxal menace that has persisted for nearly 35 years. His remarks came during the state-level Police Memorial Day Parade 2026 held at the Martyrs’ Memorial Ground in Bhopal on Wednesday. Yadav commended the police and armed forces for their significant contributions to national security and expressed gratitude for their sacrifices.

During his speech, Yadav paid tribute to police personnel who lost their lives while serving the nation. He emphasised the importance of supporting the families of these brave individuals, highlighting government initiatives aimed at providing financial assistance to bereaved families. The Chief Minister noted that 50 per cent of this assistance would be allocated to the deceased personnel’s wives, while the remaining half would go to their parents.

Yadav stated that the state has tackled the Naxal threat under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He described the period of Naxalism as challenging but praised the courage and dedication of the security forces for restoring peace and security in the region.

Significance of Police Commemoration Day

Police Commemoration Day, observed on October 21, serves to honour the sacrifices made by police personnel and to acknowledge the critical role of law enforcement in maintaining national security and social order. Yadav remarked that the police and armed forces hold a unique place in the nation’s history, with their commitment extending beyond mere duty to a pledge of protection for society.

He expressed pride in the sacrifices made by police officers and soldiers, stating that their bravery has always contributed to the nation’s honour. The Chief Minister mentioned the tricolour flag as a symbol of India’s strength and tradition, representing the indomitable spirit of its soldiers. He asserted that India’s democracy remains resilient amidst global challenges, largely due to the dedication of the police and armed forces.

Yadav also acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by cybercrime and drug trafficking. He expressed confidence that the police force would continue to confront these issues effectively, drawing on their established commitment to public safety.

Tributes and Remembrance of Fallen Heroes

Earlier in the ceremony, Yadav laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Altar and took the salute, honouring the nine police officers and personnel who died in the line of duty this year. Director General of Police Kailash Makwana also addressed the gathering, stating that the sacrifices made by police personnel are crucial for maintaining law and order in the state and the nation.

Makwana highlighted the distinguished history of the Madhya Pradesh Police, noting that officers have served across various regions of India, from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu. He expressed condolences to the families of the fallen officers, reaffirming the police’s commitment to supporting them as part of the police family.

The observance of Police Commemoration Day dates back to 1959, commemorating the bravery of ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops in Ladakh. This annual event serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by police and armed forces personnel while reinforcing their vital role in safeguarding national security.
