LG Opens Delhi’s First All-Women Police Station in Sabzi Mandi

The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi has officially inaugurated its first police station operated entirely by women, marking a significant step towards enhancing women’s safety in the capital. The facility, located in the Sabzi Mandi area, was unveiled on June 20, 2026, by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Senior officials from the Delhi Police, including Commissioner Satish Golcha, were in attendance to witness this pioneering initiative.

What distinguishes this police station is its staff composition, with every role, from the station house officer to the constables, filled exclusively by women. This approach aims to create a more supportive environment for women who report crimes, thereby addressing gender-based violence more effectively.

Focus on Gender-Based Crimes

The new police station is set to focus on various offences specifically targeting women, including domestic violence, sexual harassment, dowry-related abuse, stalking, and cyber harassment. The establishment of the facility aims to ensure a more sensitive response to cases involving these crimes.

To facilitate this, specially trained female personnel will be deployed to provide timely interventions and to support victims in their time of need. Authorities have emphasised that the environment within the station is designed to make women feel safe and supported when they come forward to report incidents.

Lieutenant Governor Sandhu stated at the inauguration that the presence of women officers throughout the policing process would likely encourage more victims to come forward. By offering a welcoming atmosphere, the initiative aims to foster trust between women and law enforcement.

Additional Support and Future Plans

In addition to law enforcement capabilities, the newly established police station will provide counselling, legal assistance, and psychological support for victims. Authorities have also announced that regular awareness programmes will be conducted, focusing on women’s rights, self-defence, and cyber safety. These initiatives aim to empower women and girls by providing them with essential knowledge and tools.

Officials have hailed the launch of the all-women police station as a milestone for women’s safety in Delhi. They believe this model will not only increase the reporting of crimes but will also strengthen the relationship between women and law enforcement agencies. The Lieutenant Governor also revealed plans to replicate this model in other districts across Delhi in the near future.

In line with enhancing police-public engagement, Lieutenant Governor Sandhu announced another initiative, “Jan Sunwai,” which aims to organise weekly public grievance hearings at police stations. This effort seeks to improve communication between the public and police, ensuring that complaints are resolved more efficiently.
