A violent confrontation was averted at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport late Sunday when security personnel stopped a cab driver who attempted to rush at two other drivers with a knife. Police said on Monday that the suspect, identified as Sohail (or Suhail) Ahmed, has been booked under the Arms Act and remanded to judicial custody.
Investigations show that the incident was rooted in an earlier clash. Around 1:30 a.m. on November 16, Ahmed was reportedly assaulted by two drivers, Jagdish JR and Renu Kumar. Close to midnight the same day, he allegedly returned to the Terminal 1 arrival zone carrying a long metal knife, apparently seeking revenge.
Visual evidence from CCTV cameras captured Ahmed sprinting toward the two men with the weapon raised. CISF officers on duty reacted instantly. ASI/Executive Sunil Kumar and his team confronted him, overpowered him, and took control of the knife before any injuries could occur.
Knife Incident Averted by CISF at Airport
The CISF later published the footage on X with the message: “Around midnight on 16 Nov, a man armed with a long metal knife charged toward two taxi drivers at the T1 Arrival area of Bengaluru Airport. ASI/Exe Sunil Kumar & team acted swiftly, overpowered the attacker and recovered the knife—preventing any harm to passengers or staff.”
The post also stated: “The accused and all involved were immediately handed over to KIA Police for further legal action. A preliminary inquiry suggests the act was in retaliation to an earlier dispute.”
Suspect and Drivers Handed to KIA Police for Probe
Following his detention, Ahmed and the two drivers involved in the quarrel were turned over to the Kempegowda International Airport Police. Officers are now examining the details of the initial altercation and verifying whether the accused has a known criminal background.
Authorities credited the CISF team for preventing a potential tragedy at one of the airport’s busiest areas, noting that their quick reaction ensured the safety of passengers, employees, and bystanders.
