India and Canada have resumed diplomatic ties, and amidst this, the US-based Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has announced to siege the Indian consulate in Vancouver.
Poster targets the Commissioner
The pro-Khalistan group has given warning of storming the consulate on Thursday. They have even advised the Indo-Canadians who have a planned visit on the same day to avoid and reschedule the visit. The group has released a poster that features the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner, Dinish Patnaik, with a target over his face. They also accused the consulate of spying and monitoring Khalistani supporters’ activities.
Claim of spy network
In the released statement, the group said, “Two years ago — 18 September 2023 — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Parliament that the Indian agents’ role was under investigation in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Two years on, Indian Consulates continue to run a spy network and surveillance targeting Khalistan Referendum campaigners.”
Talking about the threat, the group said that members are under threat and it is very severe. Even the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had to give “witness protection” to Inderjeet Singh Gosal, who succeeded Nijjar after his assassination. This siege will be a demand for accountability on espionage and intimidation on Canadian soil.
The Ministry of External Affairs in India or the Indian Consulate in Vancouver are yet to comment on this.
Khalistani Extremism in Canada
The Canadian government has accepted that extremist groups are receiving funding from Khalistani groups and different individual networks. The groups that are supporting these activities are listed as terrorist organizations like Babbar Khalsa International and the International SYF. As per the report, these groups operate through smaller cells.
