The legal battle over Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate continues with shocking twists, as new claims have emerged from within Sunjay’s own family. Since October, right after Sunjay’s death, the legal battle has been unfolding in court. Sunjay’s sister Mandhira Kapur has been accusing Priya Sachdev Kapur (widow of Sunjay Kapur) of attempting to overwrite the family lineage in the disputed will.

What did Mandhira Kapur accuse Priya of?
In one of the latest podcasts, Mandhira accused Priya of trying to replace Sunjay’s biological heirs with her own daughter Safira, whom she has from her first marriage. The irony, she pointed out, is that her former husband and Safira’s father, hotelier Vikram Chatwal, is alive. Mandhira asked a simple question — why was the will naming Safira? She pointed out that her biological father is alive and legally Safira is Sunjay’s stepchild. “Safira has been called the daughter. Samaira is the daughter, not Safira. Safira is the stepdaughter. Her biological father is alive,” Mandhira asserted.
She acknowledged the fact that Sunjay cared for Safira, but also pointed out that affection and lineage are two different things: “Don’t take over when Samaira is there. Don’t name Safira ‘the daughter’. Stop rewriting lineage.”

What does Sunjay’s controversial will state?
As per the will submitted by Priya in court, the beneficiaries are named Priya, Sunjay and Priya’s son Azarius, and Safira. What makes the will conspicuous is that while Sunjay’s stepdaughter Safira’s name is mentioned, Sunjay’s biological children from his marriage with Karisma Kapoor — Samaira and Kiaan — are missing. During the podcast, Mandhira highlighted that there are many inconsistencies in the will, including misspellings of names, incorrect addresses, and even feminine pronouns for Sunjay. “These are not mistakes; these are giveaways… Nobody changes so drastically within seven years.” She even accused Priya of trying to keep away the Kapur family from what is rightfully theirs: “You are depriving the whole family. You have stolen from our family. This is ours. It doesn’t belong to you.”
