A 52-year-old lawyer, Satish Kumar Srivastava, was reportedly shot dead by another advocate following a dispute regarding a property in Prayagraj. The incident occurred on Thursday in the Salori area, as per reports. Srivastava, who also served as a lab assistant at a local college, was allegedly shot by Additional Government Advocate Devendra Nath Mishra with a licensed revolver during a heated argument over Nazul land.

Nazul land is defined as government-owned land that can be leased to individuals or institutions for a specified duration, rather than being sold outright. The altercation reportedly escalated when Mishra arrived at the disputed property and broke a lock that Srivastava had allegedly installed.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Sagar Jain, the confrontation led to a gunshot that struck Srivastava in the abdomen, resulting in critical injuries. Family members rushed him to SRN Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

Legal Actions and FIR Registration

Following the incident, Varsha Shrivastava, the victim’s wife, filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Devendra Nath Mishra, his wife Shail Mishra, son Amrendra Nath Mishra, Nipendra Mishra, and several unidentified individuals. The FIR was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Varsha stated that her husband practised law at the district and sessions court and also held a position as a lab assistant at Ishwar Sharan Degree College.

In response to the incident, police have detained several individuals for questioning. Three police teams have been established to locate the remaining suspects. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from cameras situated around the disputed property to gather more evidence.

Ambuj Mishra, the lawyer representing the deceased, indicated that he was at the Allahabad High Court when he received news of the alleged shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, he claimed to have witnessed members of Srivastava’s family being assaulted, with police personnel present but seemingly unable to control the situation.

Details of the Confrontation

Ambuj Mishra further alleged that Devendra Nath Mishra drew his licensed revolver and shot Srivastava during the altercation. He also mentioned that before the gunfire, Devendra’s son Nitendra attempted to strike Srivastava with a bamboo stick. However, the attempt reportedly missed Srivastava and instead hit Devendra, causing him injury.

Following the shooting, Devendra Nath Mishra was taken to Bailey Hospital for medical treatment. The police have confirmed the ongoing investigation and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend all individuals involved in the incident.

The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the serious implications of property disputes in the region. Authorities are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation, as the community seeks justice for the tragic loss of Satish Kumar Srivastava.
