A very shocking incident has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. A six-year-old girl is battling for her life in a hospital. This comes after she was brutally assaulted by a local youth. The horrifying incident occurred in the Ghatampur area of Kanpur Nagar district on Tuesday evening.

What happened?

According to reports, the girl had gone to a nearby shop around 5:30 PM on Tuesday evening. During this, a young man from the same locality allegedly lured her with a chocolate. He took the minor girl away to a secluded area behind a shrine on the pretext of offering her chocolate.

Upon reaching at an isolated location, he attempted to rape her. When the terrified girl began to scream, the assailant reportedly stuffed leaves into her mouth to silence her. As she continued to resist and cry out, he repeatedly struck her in the head with a brick, causing severe injuries.

Body of the child discovered

According to reports upon hearing the screams of the girl the Family members and neighbours were alerted by the disturbance. They rushed to the scene for inspection. Upon their arrival, the attacker fled the scene. He left behind the child in a bloody and unconscious state.

The critically injured girl was initially rushed to a Community Health Centre for immediate first aid. Given her severe condition, she was subsequently transferred to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Kanpur. A “green corridor” – a traffic-free route – was established to ensure her swift transfer to the district hospital.

The father of the victim said, “My daughter went to a nearby shop at around 5.30 pm. When she didn’t return after 10 to 15 minutes, her mother went in search for her. When she asked the shopkeeper, she was informed that our daughter didn’t go there. My daughter didn’t even reach the shop…A man from our locality picked her up and took her behind the market area, behind the bushes.”

She might not make it: Victim’s Father

The girl’s father expressed his profound grief and uncertainty about his daughter’s survival. “She is in such a state that she might not make it. This was clearly an attempt on her life. I don’t know how she is still alive,” he said.

The father said that the man lives next to their house. “There is no enmity, only some minor discord that happens in any neighbourhood. I think his parents made him do it,” he added.

Severe head injury: Medical reports

The medical reports indicate the girl suffered severe head trauma. The scalp of the child had split into four sections exposing her skull. She also sustained a deep wound above her eyebrow. Dr. Sanjay Kala, Principal of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, personally attended to her injuries.

A team of specialists, including Dr. Manish Singh, head of Neurosciences, and gynaecology specialists, are monitoring her condition. CT scans and abdominal ultrasound results are reported as normal. As of now, the girl remains unconscious due to her head and facial injuries.

Investigation underway

Following the incident the father of the minor lodged an official police complaint. The olice have initiated an investigation into the matter. A forensic team has examined the crime scene, and additional police forces have been deployed in the area.

Town outpost in-charge Shailendra Singh noted that the accused is reportedly mentally unstable. The girl’s father, while having no known enmity with the attacker, suspects his parents may have influenced him.
