35 Kg Ganja Seized From Faridabad In Odisha-To-NCR Smuggling Racket, 6 Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a significant operation, six individuals, including three women, have been apprehended in Faridabad, with approximately 35 kg of ganja allegedly smuggled from Odisha being seized. This operation was reported by the news agency, citing police officials. The seized consignment was reportedly intended for distribution in Palwal and Noida.

The suspects were caught near Railway Station Road after they allegedly discarded three bags containing the contraband in an attempt to escape. Acting on intelligence regarding a group arriving by train from Odisha with ganja, a team from the Crime Branch in Sector 16 maintained surveillance in the area and successfully detained all six individuals.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Vinod, a resident of Dujana village in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, and two others, Virendra and Baljit, who are from Palwal district. The three women involved are also reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, according to police sources.

Details of the Smuggling Operation

Preliminary questioning of the suspects revealed that Vinod is allegedly the mastermind behind the smuggling operation. A senior police officer informed PTI that he had travelled from Odisha with the three women and the consignment, which was destined for distribution in Palwal and Noida.

According to the police, Vinod had reportedly instructed his cousin, Virendra, to collect the consignment at Old Faridabad railway station. Virendra, along with his associate Baljit, arrived at the location to facilitate the delivery of the ganja. While the two men were responsible for delivering the contraband in Palwal, Vinod and the three women were to transport it to Noida, as per the police officer’s statements.

A police spokesperson indicated that the accused individuals would be presented before a court, where the authorities would seek their remand for further questioning. Investigators are currently looking into the source of the contraband, its intended recipients, and the potential involvement of other individuals in the alleged smuggling network.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps

The arrests were made following a tip-off regarding the consignment arriving from Odisha, prompting police to investigate the broader network associated with its alleged supply to Palwal and Noida. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Authorities are expected to delve deeper into the logistics of the smuggling operation, including how the ganja was transported from Odisha to the National Capital Region. The police are also likely to explore connections between the arrested individuals and any larger syndicates involved in drug smuggling.

As the investigation progresses, police aim to gather more intelligence that could lead to further arrests and dismantling of the network. The focus will be on understanding the methods used for transportation and distribution of illegal substances in the region.
