Kanpur Law Student’s Stomach Split Open, Fingers Chopped After Argument Over Medicine Price

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 22-year-old law student was brutally attacked in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. This comes after a heated argument over the price of a medicine which spiraled into violence. The victim, Abhijeet Singh Chandel, a first-year LLB student at Kanpur University and resident of Keshavpuram, suffered life-threatening injuries when four men assaulted him near a local pharmacy in the Rawatpur area around 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Stomach Slit, Fingers Severed in Grisly Assault

According to police, Chandel went to a pharmacy run by Amar Singh Chauhan, where a verbal altercation erupted over the cost of a medicine. The situation escalated when Chauhan, along with his brother Vijay Singh and two accomplices, Prince Srivastava and Nikhil Tiwari, attacked the student with a sharp-edged weapon.

The attackers struck him on the head and stomach, slit open his abdomen, and chopped off two fingers from his hand before fleeing the scene.

Locals Rescue Victim After Brutal Attack

Witnesses said Chandel, drenched in blood, collapsed on the road screaming for help. His family members and locals rushed to save him, reportedly tying his exposed intestines with a cloth before taking him to hospital.

Shockingly, four hospitals refused to admit him due to the severity of his injuries. He was finally taken to Regency Hospital, where doctors performed a two-hour surgery and gave him 14 stitches on his head. His condition remains critical.

Police Arrest Three, One Accused on the Run

Police have arrested Amar Singh Chauhan, Vijay Singh, and Nikhil Tiwari on charges of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the IPC. The fourth accused, Prince Srivastava, is absconding. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Ranjeet Kumar confirmed that a search operation is underway to trace him.

Mother Alleges Police Bias

The victim’s mother, Neelam Singh Chandel, has alleged that the accused have strong links with the local police. She claimed that, instead of acting against the attackers, the police registered a false extortion case against her and her injured son the same night. “My son is fighting for his life, yet they booked him instead of those who tried to kill him,” she said.

Police have since filed a new FIR after the assault details emerged, and the investigation is ongoing.
