The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Jharkhand Police has detained another individual in connection with alleged irregularities tied to the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination-2023. This recent arrest marks the tenth individual apprehended in the ongoing investigation, as confirmed by officials on Monday.

Kundan Kumar, a resident of Dumri village in the Palamu district, is the latest to be arrested. The CID announced this development in a statement made late on Sunday night, highlighting the sustained efforts in tackling the examination fraud issue.

The examination in question was administered by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission and has been a focal point of controversy since its conduct in 2024. The arrest of Kundan Kumar adds to the escalating list of detainees involved in this alleged fraudulent scheme.

Government Actions and Court Intervention

In the wake of the protests from job aspirants protesting alleged irregularities, the Jharkhand government initially declared the cancellation of multiple recruitment tests. This included the JSSC-CGL-2023 that took place on September 21 and 22, 2024. Such actions were aimed at restoring integrity to the recruitment process and addressing the concerns raised by candidates.

However, this move faced legal challenges, and the Jharkhand High Court decided to stay the government’s cancellation order. The ruling came after successful candidates filed a plea, expressing concerns about the potential loss of their employment opportunities due to the government’s abrupt decision.

The judiciary’s intervention highlights the complex interplay between administrative measures and candidates’ rights amid allegations of exam malpractices. This has intensified scrutiny on the examination process and the responsibilities of the authorities involved.

Previous Arrests and Investigation Progress

The CID’s investigation has led to a series of arrests over recent weeks. The agency apprehended an individual from Giridih district on August 30, followed by four successful candidates from the JSSC-CGL examination on August 28, and two others involved in the case on August 27. These earlier arrests have contributed to the mounting evidence surrounding the alleged examination irregularities.

Key figures in this investigation include Abhay Tiwari, who was arrested on July 22. At the time of his arrest, Tiwari was serving as a block supply officer in Poriyahat, located in the Godda district. Following his detention, his wife, Sushama Kumari, and his brother, Akshay Tiwari, were also taken into custody on August 18, solidifying the CID’s pursuit of accountability within this case.

A Special Investigation Team has been dedicated to this case, indicating the significance attached to the allegations of fraud within the examination system. The ongoing probe aims to ensure that all facets of this alleged conspiracy are thoroughly investigated.
