Joint Security Forces Operations in Manipur Lead to Arrest of 13 Insurgents

In a concerted effort by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Manipur Police, a series of intelligence-led operations were conducted from March 15 to March 21 across various districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Chandel, Kakching, Thoubal, and Tengnoupal. These operations resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals associated with different insurgent groups and the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, explosives, and other military supplies.

Details of Arrests and Recoveries

On March 15, acting on precise intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles apprehended five cadres belonging to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) near Border Pillar 73 in Tengnoupal District. In another operation on the same day, four cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested near Border Pillar 88 in Kakching District. Additionally, Assam Rifles, with the assistance of Manipur Police, recovered various military items including a pistol, an improvised mortar, eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with communication equipment and ammunition from the Boljang Hill Range.

Collaboration with Local Law Enforcement

On March 17, a joint operation was executed by Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos, leading to the arrest of a PREPAK (ANE) cadre along with ammunition, a vehicle, and a mobile phone in Thoudam Bazar. Simultaneously, the forces apprehended another PREPAK (PRO) cadre in Canchipur. Later that day, based on credible intelligence, the Indian Army and Bishnupur Commandos conducted a operation in Thanga that led to the recovery of various military items including one rifle, a pistol, a hand grenade, and a locally manufactured bomb.

Further Arrests and Significant Recoveries

The following day, on March 18, Assam Rifles, working alongside Imphal East Police Commandos, apprehended a female cadre belonging to KCP (PWG) in Kongba Uchekon, along with a mobile phone and a SIM card. On March 19, another cadre from the United People’s Party of Kangleipak was captured in Mantripukhri. This series of operations continued, leading to substantial recoveries including a single-barrel gun, various firearms, explosives, and communication devices on March 20 at multiple locations such as Loisi and Saivom villages.

Recovery of Weapons and Explosive Material

Further operations on March 20 also led to the seizure of multiple firearms and explosives in Chandel District, including three pistols and a grenade launcher in Yangnoubung Village. Additional items recovered in the Thalem-Chingkhan Hill Range included numerous IEDs and firearms. In various locations within Thoubal District, security forces uncovered firearms and ammunition, underscoring the extensive efforts to curb insurgent activities in the region. Operations also took place in Keirao Wangkhem and Champai hills, yielding further discoveries such as rifles, pistols, and ammunition.

These joint operations highlight the ongoing commitment of Indian security forces and local police to neutralize insurgent threats and maintain peace in Manipur. The recovery of substantial weaponry and successful apprehensions demonstrate the effectiveness of coordinated operations in the region under the operational framework of the Spear Corps.
