International Yoga Festival Begins in Rishikesh with Participants from 80 Countries

The Yoga Festival at Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh began on March 9 and will continue until March 15. The opening day featured traditional prayers and rituals, inviting yoga practitioners from across India and various parts of the world to immerse themselves in the event’s activities. Renowned figures in the yoga community gathered to honor this occasion at the Ganga Ghat of the ashram.

Prominent Guests Attend Opening Ceremony

Acharya Balkrishna of Patanjali Yog Peeth was among the chief guests present for the inaugural celebrations, accompanied by the well-known drummer Shivamani. Swami Chidanand Saraswati Maharaj, the President of Parmarth Niketan Ashram, led the Ganga Aarti and special prayers, invoking blessings from Mother Ganga for the attendees and participants.

Emphasis on Health and Wellness

In remarks made during the opening ceremony, Swami Chidanand Saraswati Maharaj highlighted the increasing interest in both yoga and Ayurveda inspired by Acharya Balkrishna’s teachings. He mentioned the growing public enthusiasm for traditional practices and their importance for physical and spiritual well-being. He encouraged everyone to adopt yoga as a regular practice to maintain health and prevent diseases.

Global Participation and Cultural Unity

The festival has attracted participants from around 80 different countries, showcasing its global appeal. Attendees included diplomats and ambassadors from various nations, emphasizing the event’s role in fostering international goodwill through yoga. Swami Chidanand noted that guests from countries such as Iran, Israel, the United States, Russia, and Ukraine were present, illustrating yoga’s capacity to unite people across cultural divides.

Future Highlights of the Festival

Swami Chidanand announced that notable dignitaries, including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.), would join the festival later in the week. He stressed the importance of unity, balance, and peace that yoga promotes, stating that the festival serves as a platform for individuals to come together in a shared celebration of health and spirituality. As the event continues over the next seven days, participants are encouraged to engage wholeheartedly in the activities and teachings offered during this significant gathering.
