The CSR Journal Magazine

An Indian national has tragically lost his life after sustaining injuries in an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, as confirmed by the Indian Embassy on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday, and resulted in over 300 people being hurt, including 11 Indian individuals. One of the injured was reported to have passed away later, intensifying concerns regarding security in the region.

The attack is part of a series of strikes that have targeted the airport over the preceding week. This ongoing threat to civilian facilities has drawn condemnation from the Indian government, which has described the violence as “completely unacceptable” and called for it to cease immediately.

Expressing solidarity, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated its support for the people and government of Saudi Arabia, hoping for a speedy return to peace and normalcy in the region following these distressing events.

Response from Indian Authorities

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh reported the unfortunate loss, stating, “We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.” They assured the affected family that the embassy would extend all possible support to facilitate the swift repatriation of the mortal remains.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also expressed sorrow regarding the incident, stating in a post on a social media platform, “Deeply grieved at the loss of life of an Indian national in the Riyadh attack. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The Embassy will extend all possible assistance.” His remarks highlighted the embassy’s commitment to helping those impacted.

The embassy has maintained communication with local authorities as well as hospital staff regarding the condition of the injured Indians, reinforcing their commitment to monitoring the situation closely.

Ongoing Security Measures and Travel Advisory

In another development, Akasa Air announced the suspension of its flights to and from Riyadh until October 13, as a precautionary measure in response to the rising tensions surrounding the airport. The airline’s decision demonstrates a proactive stance in prioritising passenger safety amidst these incidents.

The MEA reiterated its strong condemnation of the series of attacks, including the specific assault on October 10, which has resulted in loss of life, injuries, and extensive property damage. The ministry voiced deep sympathy for the families affected by the violence and extended wishes for a rapid recovery to those who were injured during the attacks.

Furthermore, Saudi authorities have identified Yemen’s Houthis as being responsible for the attacks, further complicating the security landscape in the region. Among those who lost their lives in the incident were four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, a Palestinian, a US citizen, an Egyptian, a Jordanian, a Syrian, and a Sudanese.
