India Rejects China’s Action on Renaming Places in Arunachal Pradesh

The Indian government has rejected China’s move to rename some places in Arunachal Pradesh as ‘vain and preposterous’. India on Wednesday said that such attempts will not alter the reality that the state “ was, is and will always remain part of India.”

After Beijing announced the Chinese name for 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh, including 15 mountains, four passes, 2 rivers, along with five inhabitant areas, New Delhi’s reaction followed. China also claims that Arunachal Pradesh is part of Southern Tibet.

Responding to the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, said, “We have noticed that China has persisted with its preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, consistent with the principal position, reject such attempts categorically”

“Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” he added.

This is not the first time China has named places inside Arunachal Pradesh. Zangnan is the Chinese name for Arunachal Pradesh, which claims some 90,000 km² of Arunachal Pradesh as its own territory.
