GST will also be free for Makhana of Bihar? Farmers and businessmen will meet finance minister

The CSR Journal Magazine

Makhana, which has become the identity of Bihar, is now looking for tax relief. Farmers and businessmen across the state have been demanding to make Makhana GST free for a long time. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is visiting Katihar on September 10 and it is expected that this journey will bring great relief for the Makhana industry.

Former Education Minister Dr. Ram Prakash Mahato has directly questioned the government – if Khakhara of Gujarat can be tax free, then why step behavior with the makhana of Bihar?

Bihar’s pride, but tax burden

Makhana is not only the identity of Bihar, but it has got the status of superfood in the country and abroad. This is attached to the livelihood of millions of farmers and laborers. Makhana production occurs on a large scale in districts like Katihar, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Purnia. Despite this, Makhana traders are facing GST.

Businessmen say that not only the income of farmers is being affected due to increasing tax burden, but its competition in the international market is also decreasing.

Finance Minister’s visit to Katihar

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is reaching Katihar on 10 September. Her first program will be held at the Rajdbar Resort in Chhitbari, where she will meet officers and Makhana businessmen. After this, she will hear the problems of people associated with Makhana industry in Bari, Hasanganj and other areas of Katihar.

It is being hoped by the farmers and traders that this time the Finance Minister will make concrete announcements towards making Makhana GST free.

Question of Dr. Ram Prakash

Former Education Minister Dr. Ram Prakash Mahato asked the government directly, saying, “When Khakhara of Gujarat can be tax free, why not Makhana in Bihar?” He called it discriminatory with farmers.

He says that the branding and economic importance of the Makhana of Bihar is no less than anyone. By paying tax free tax, not only will the farmers benefit directly, but the economy of Bihar will also get new strength.

At present, all eyes are on the visit of the Union Finance Minister. With the meeting in Katihar, it will be decided whether Makhana of Bihar will be able to be free from its tax burden or not.

Farmers and businessmen of Bihar are saying in one voice – “Like the Khakhara of Gujarat, the makhana of Bihar will have to be tax free, only then will real justice be available.”
