Program Structure and Responsibilities

During the fellowship, participants will be matched with a lead mentor from their host organization and will work alongside senior staff throughout the summer. Responsibilities include conducting policy research and analysis, drafting reports and white papers, attending relevant meetings, and participating in advocacy efforts. This role empowers fellows to actively contribute to discussions surrounding important internet and technology policy issues.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Google Summer Fellowship 2026, applicants must be enrolled in or accepted into an accredited college, university, or graduate program (undergraduate, master’s, or PhD) by August 30, 2026. Additionally, candidates must be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2026. Students from diverse majors and degree programs who possess strong analytical, research, writing, and communication skills are encouraged to apply. Previous Google Policy Fellows are not eligible to apply, and international students may only apply if they have authorization to work in the fellowship location.

Compensation and Timeline

Fellows working full-time (40 hours per week) will receive a stipend of $12,000 USD (approximately ₹10,00,000), while those in part-time roles (20 hours per week) will earn $6,000 USD (around ₹5,00,000). Payment is contingent upon satisfactory evaluations and the completion of necessary administrative forms. The fellowship is scheduled to run from June to August 2026. While in-person participation in Washington, D.C., is recommended, some host organizations may allow for remote involvement.

Application Process

Interested candidates can apply through the official application portal. Applicants may express interest in a maximum of two host organizations and must submit an online application, including academic records, personal details, and a statement of interest. Application reviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly by their proposed host organizations.
