Goa CM Pramod Sawant Assures New LPG cylinders will be Delivered in 25 Days

The CSR Journal Magazine

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured residents that new domestic LPG cylinders will be delivered within a period of 25 days following online bookings. This announcement comes amid rising concerns regarding a shortage of LPG in the state. During a recent high-level meeting, Sawant reviewed the gas supply situation and confirmed that the state government is committed to following guidelines issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to effectively manage the current crisis.

Commercial and Industrial Gas Supply Restrictions

In light of the ongoing situation, commercial establishments will only receive 20 percent of their usual LPG supply. The Chief Minister noted that this limitation is in accordance with the Government of India’s directives. Furthermore, the supply of industrial gas has been suspended until further notice, with an appeal to users of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to adhere strictly to their existing connections.

Government Monitoring and Public Assurance

The state government has designated officials to oversee gas distribution across different regions to ensure an organized delivery process. A Taluka Nodal Officer from the Directorate of Civil Supplies will monitor each gas agency and submit daily reports regarding the status of gas supply. Sawant urged residents to remain calm and advised against creating panic buying situations, expressing confidence that the issue would be resolved promptly.

Opposition Party Protests Over LPG Cylinder Shortage

In a related development, members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) alongside other opposition MPs staged a protest at Makar Dwar within the Parliament complex, calling attention to the nationwide shortage of LPG cylinders. The demonstration involved chants highlighting the crisis and concerns over Indian citizens stranded in Middle Eastern nations. Congress MP Jebi Mather criticized government assertions that there is no shortage, insisting on the need for acknowledgment of the situation to devise effective solutions.

Calls for Parliamentary Discussion on Foreign Policy

Further criticism emerged as Congress MP Jairam Ramesh claimed the Modi government is resistant to discussions in Parliament regarding the geopolitical situation in West Asia and its implications for India. Ramesh expressed that the opposition seeks a thorough debate on the issue, accusing the government of avoiding transparency in its foreign policy decisions. Congress leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi, have also organized protests within the Parliament grounds surrounding the LPG crisis.

Government Response to LPG Production and Security

Despite the criticisms, the government has maintained that domestic LPG production has increased by approximately 25 percent, specifically targeting household consumers. Officials indicated that for non-domestic LPG, priority is being given to essential sectors including healthcare and education. Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, assured Parliament that India’s crude supply remains stable, even with disruptions in some import routes. He highlighted a shift in sourcing strategy that has led to a diversification of crude import partners, thereby enhancing supply security.

Reassurance of Fuel Availability

Puri further guaranteed that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, kerosene, or aviation turbine fuel, pointing out that refineries are operating at high capacity utilization levels. He emphasized that the current supply situation for these fuels is secure, dismissing concerns regarding fuel shortages amid the ongoing LPG crisis.
