A metal slab collapsed at a construction site in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Wednesday night, culminating in the rescue of fifteen workers. The accident took place around 9 pm at the Bosky The Empire scheme located in the Kudasan area. While the workers were casting a slab for an independent structure positioned between two existing buildings, the sudden collapse resulted in immediate action from rescue teams.

The Guanrat Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, reported that twelve of the rescued workers were admitted to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, three workers did not sustain significant injuries and were discharged shortly thereafter. The rapid response from local authorities ensured that all involved were accounted for and safely extricated from the site.

Local police and health authorities confirmed that none of the individuals admitted to the hospital were in critical condition, reflecting the efficacy of the rescue mission. Sanghavi emphasised this point, stating that all workers currently receiving treatment were stable and there was no cause for alarm regarding their health outcomes.

Rescue Operations Continue

Continuing throughout the night, the rescue operation was spearheaded by Gandhinagar Superintendent of Police, Ravi Teja Vasamsetty. He outlined that around fifteen workers were involved in the collapse and all have since been спасены. Investigations concluded that there were no remaining individuals trapped under the rubble, as the teams diligently cleared the site.

Among the injured, three workers were discharged, while ten sustained minor injuries. However, two individuals suffered more significant injuries—one sustained a spinal injury, and another had a fracture requiring medical attention. Emergency services worked throughout the night with various agencies, including the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, State Disaster Response Force, and National Disaster Response Force, all contributing their expertise to the operation.

As the rescue efforts progressed, authorities deployed specialised machinery such as concrete and metal cutters along with cranes capable of lifting over 300 tonnes. The relentless focus on safety and thoroughness led to the decision to continue the operation overnight, ensuring a complete inspection of the site, as outlined by Sanghavi.

Structural Assessment and Future Actions

In the aftermath of the incident, Gujarat’s Health Minister Praful Pansheriya stated that medical teams would remain on site until the rescue operations were concluded. He assured the public that no workers were in critical condition during their stay at the Civil Hospital, thus alleviating concerns over serious health implications.

The injured workers reportedly hail from Dahod, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, contracted to the site by a local contractor. Post-incident, the Roads and Buildings department initiated a structural assessment in collaboration with law enforcement to evaluate the stability of the construction site.

Furthermore, Superintendent Vasamsetty indicated that an investigation into those involved with the corporation responsible for the construction was underway. He mentioned Nilesh Modi, whose name has been cited in relation to the project, but noted that he is currently abroad. Authorities will continue to examine the affiliations and responsibilities of stakeholders linked to the construction site.
