The request of Renukaswamy murder case– accused actor Darshan Thoogudeepa to transfer him from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to Ballari jail was rejected by the court on Tuesday. The hearing took place via video conference, where Darshan broke down and said, “I don’t want anything for anyone, please give me poison…” The hearing was conducted before the 57th CCH court in Bengaluru.
Darshan was reprimanded
Darshan burst into tears and told the court, “It has been nearly a month since I have seen sunlight. My hands are getting a fungal infection… Life here has become unbearable…” However, the judge reprimanded him, saying, “You cannot say such things.” The accused actor nodded and fell silent.
While the transfer request was denied, the court provided some relief by allowing him movement within the prison premises and permitted extra bedding, pillows, and bedsheets. The court noted that no prison rules had been violated, and Darshan would continue to be held in Bengaluru central prison. The actor, known for his well-built appearance at the time of his arrest, appeared very weak during the video conference yesterday with the judge.
Background of the arrest
In connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, the actor was arrested on June 11, 2024, along with co-accused Pavithra Gowda and 15 others. After spending 131 days in prison, he was released on interim bail on October 30 and again on December 13. Both the actor and his girlfriend Pavithra were granted bail by the Karnataka High Court, but the state government challenged the decision before the Supreme Court. On August 14, the Supreme Court cancelled the bail granted by the High Court.
Darshan’s viral videos
Last year, when a picture of the accused actor smoking and sipping coffee in jail went viral, seven officials of Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail were suspended. A few days later, a video circulated showing him talking on a video call, worsening the situation. Since then, he has been kept in strict confinement.
