The CSR Journal Magazine

Authorities in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh apprehended 18 individuals on suspicion of illegal gambling during a raid at a farmhouse connected to IAS officer Vandana Vaidya and her family. Vaidya, who is the Managing Director of the state government’s Finance Development Corporation, has come under scrutiny following this incident. The raid, prompted by a tip-off, occurred late at night between Tuesday and Wednesday in Awalipura village, approximately 50 kilometers from the district’s main administrative center.

Details of the Arrests

During the operation, police managed to detain 18 suspects; however, six individuals reportedly evaded capture. Law enforcement officials seized 30 mobile phones, playing cards, and cash amounting to Rs 13.68 lakh from the premises. The main entry to the farmhouse was found locked, while police discovered that some people were allegedly engaged in gambling activities inside the location.

Legal Action Initiated

A case has been filed against the individuals detained under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Gambling Act. The primary suspect, identified as Jagdish Rathod, also known as Kubda, is alleged to have organized the gambling operations at the farmhouse, with caretaker Ranjeet Chaudhary among those who fled from the scene.

IAS Officer’s Response

In the aftermath of the raid, Vandana Vaidya submitted a written communication to the police, claiming that unknown persons had unlawfully entered her family’s farmhouse and expressed concerns about potential theft. She requested a separate criminal investigation into the matter to identify those responsible for the unauthorized entry.

Investigation and Suspensions

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Yangchen Dolkar Bhutia confirmed that an inquiry will be conducted to address Vaidya’s allegations concerning the entry of individuals into the farmhouse. In light of the incident, disciplinary action has been taken against several law enforcement personnel, including suspensions of the officer in charge of the Manpur police station, a sub-inspector, and an assistant sub-inspector previously assigned to the area.
