From 54% to IIT Bombay: How Jainendrajeet Cracked JEE with a 99.98 Percentile

The CSR Journal Magazine

Jainendrajeet’s journey to IIT Bombay commenced with an academic record he found hard to accept. Following a significant period of bed rest prior to his Class 10 board exams, he faced difficulties in keeping up with class activities and overall preparation. When the results were released, he was shocked to discover that he had scored only 54%. “I checked again, verified my problem number. It was my result itself. 54%,” he stated in a video on his YouTube channel.

His peers achieved scores ranging from 80 to 98 per cent, leaving him feeling disheartened as he ranked lowest among his circle. The emotional impact of receiving such a score was compounded by worries about how it would affect the opinions of both his parents and peers. However, this disappointment became a catalyst for change in his perspective and aspirations.

Transformative Journey of Hard Work

Determined to improve, Jainendrajeet characterised his past academic performance as “average” or even “below average.” He embarked on a mission to overhaul his study habits. This included meticulous planning of his daily schedule, avoiding distractions, and limiting time spent on social media. Over time, dedicating around 10 hours daily to studying became his norm.

Despite his commitment, he encountered numerous obstacles along the way. Mathematics presented particular challenges, while the concepts in Physics were daunting. In Chemistry, recalling reactions often eluded him. “Math questions just wouldn’t get solved. I was scared just looking at Physics. I couldn’t remember the reactions in Chemistry,” he explained in his video. Nevertheless, Jainendrajeet made the decision to adapt rather than concede defeat, constantly refining his approach to study.

He attributes his turnaround to three key strategies that played a crucial role in his preparation for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). First, he engaged with educational content on YouTube prior to attending class, allowing him to grasp topics more effectively when instructed in school. Second, he established specific daily goals for his study sessions, dividing his objectives by subject and achieving task completion consistently. “Consistency beats motivation every single time,” he remarked.

Finally, Jainendrajeet immediately attempted previous-year questions after completing each chapter. For him, working through these questions served a dual purpose: not only did they test his understanding of the concepts, but they also offered insight into the patterns and reasoning behind JEE exam questions.

Impressive Academic Achievement at IIT Bombay

Jainendrajeet’s efforts culminated in an impressive performance in the JEE, where he achieved a 99.98 percentile in JEE Main 2023, followed by a rank of 349 in JEE Advanced 2023, ultimately securing admission to the Computer Science programme at IIT Bombay. Reflecting on his journey, he noted that the end result might suggest an effortless route. “Today when people see the result, AIR 246, IIT Bombay CSE, Olympiads, then people think this would be naturally talented. But reality was completely different,” he remarked.

His message to aspiring students is straightforward: “Your current situation is temporary, but your hard work and consistency can change everything.” This highlights the importance of perseverance and dedication in overcoming challenges and achieving one’s goals.
