Free Narayan Limb Camp: Lives Smiled Again in Agra with the Gift of Narayan Seva Sansthan

The CSR Journal Magazine

Under the aegis of Narayan Seva Sansthan, a free medical screening, surgery selection, and measurement camp for Narayan Limbs and calipers was organized on Sunday at Triveni Greens, JP Hotel, Fatehabad Road, Agra. The camp, filled with compassion and service, brought new hope and smiles to many persons with disabilities.

A total of 598 persons with disabilities from different regions attended the camp. The institute’s team of expert doctors and P&O specialists examined all participants. Among them, measurements were taken for Narayan Limbs (artificial hands and legs) and calipers for 226 individuals, while 108 patients were selected for surgical procedures.

Prashant Agarwal, President of Narayan Seva Sansthan, said that the institution’s mission is not only to provide treatment but also to restore confidence and dignity in the lives of persons with disabilities. He stated, “The moment a person with disability stands on their feet and smiles for the first time, that is the greatest reward for us.”

Dr. Manas Ranjan Sahu from the institute informed that many patients at the camp had become disabled due to road accidents, train accidents, electric shocks, and fodder machine injuries. In addition, patients suffering from congenital disabilities, cerebral stroke, post-polio conditions, and complications due to premature birth were also examined.

The camp began with a ceremonial lamp lighting. Present on the occasion were Narendrapal Dhakre, Asha, Suresh Chandra Agarwal, Dr. R.K. Arora, Charan Singh, Lakshmi, Brajbala, Bhim Singh, Ram Niwas Agarwal, and Qureshi, along with several social workers and guests. They interacted closely with the participants and listened to their struggles and hopes. Many individuals had been waiting for years to receive artificial limbs. When they learned that they would soon be able to stand on their feet again, tears of joy filled their eyes.

Agarwal further informed that the individuals whose measurements and casting were completed during the camp would receive their Narayan Limbs in a special camp to be organized in Agra after about two to three months. These artificial limbs developed by the institute are lightweight, durable, and high in quality, enabling beneficiaries to return to a more independent and normal life.

The institute also arranged free meals, tea, and refreshments for all patients and their family members. A team of 40 members from the institute provided services during the camp.

It is noteworthy that Narayan Seva Sansthan has been working selflessly in the field of social service since 1985. The founder of the institution, Kailash Manav, has been honored with the Padma Shri by the President of India for his extraordinary humanitarian service. The President of the institution, Prashant Agarwal, received the President’s Award in 2023 for his contribution to the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

So far, the institution has provided more than 39,388 free artificial limbs to persons with disabilities in India and abroad and has offered free medical treatment to more than 452,000 patients.

This camp once again proved that when service, compassion, and determination come together, many incomplete lives can learn to walk again.
