Fourteen-Year-Old Killed During Kidnapping Attempt in Nagpur

The CSR Journal Magazine

A fourteen-year-old boy was allegedly killed by his kidnappers while they attempted to render him unconscious in Nagpur. The tragic event occurred during a religious procession last week, marking the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on February 1, 2025. The local police reported that the boy was taken from a Shobha Yatra, a public celebration, when the suspects lured him into a vehicle.

According to Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal, the abductors transported the teenager to a remote area on the outskirts of the city. The initial attempt to subdue the boy involved administering rat poison, which reportedly failed to knock him out as intended. Following this unsuccessful effort, the suspects resorted to strangulation, leading to the child’s death from the ordeal.

Arrests Made and Background of the Suspects

The police have apprehended three men who are believed to be responsible for the kidnapping and murder. Their backgrounds indicate that they had a pre-existing acquaintance with the victim’s family; they reportedly purchased vegetables from the boy’s father, a known wholesaler in the area. This connection may have facilitated their plan, which they had allegedly devised over a span of 20 days.

Authorities revealed that the kidnappers intended to demand a ransom of between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh from the victim’s family. The intent behind this extortion was purportedly to resolve personal debts that the suspects had accrued. Investigators are looking into the financial motivations that led to this grave crime.

During the investigation, police leveraged technical evidence, including CCTV footage and mobile call records, to identify and apprehend the suspects. Their methodical approach allowed law enforcement to piece together the timeline of the crime and locate the victim’s body, which was disposed of by the kidnappers the day following the incident.

Community Response and Police Actions

The local community has reacted with shock to the news of the adolescent’s tragic demise. Public sentiments have highlighted concerns over safety during community events such as religious processions. Residents are urging for more protective measures to be implemented during large gatherings to avoid similar incidents in the future.

In response to the growing concern, the police have increased surveillance at public events and intensified efforts to ensure the safety of attendees. Police Commissioner Singal mentioned in a press conference that the department is reviewing its strategies for managing large crowds to prevent future occurrences of criminal activities.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement remains vigilant in monitoring any leads related to the suspects’ network. The public has been encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicious activities that may arise, contributing to overall community safety and cooperation with the authorities.
