Esha Deol and Hema Malini Respond to Dharmendra’s Omission from Oscars In Memoriam

The CSR Journal Magazine

Following Hema Malini’s remarks, Esha Deol has expressed her views on Dharmendra’s absence from the In Memoriam segment during the 98th Academy Awards. Esha emphasized that the notable actor would not be affected by the oversight, stating, “I don’t think it would ever make a difference to Papa.

His heart has always been far too big to worry about such things. For him, life was never about recognition or status—it was about love, kindness, and the place he held in people’s hearts.” Her comments highlight Dharmendra’s character and the values he cherishes, regardless of accolades.

Hema Malini’s Disappointment

Hema Malini previously conveyed her disappointment regarding the Oscars’ decision to overlook Dharmendra during their broadcast. In her discussion with Bollywood Hungama, she remarked, “It is a shame, of course. A shame for them to have overlooked an actor who means so many things to so many people in many parts of the world. Dharamji was known and recognised everywhere.”

Despite her discontent, Hema acknowledged that Dharmendra himself likely would not be bothered by the omission, underscoring that awards were never the focal point of his distinguished career.

Reflections on Awards and Recognition

She elaborated on Dharmendra’s lack of numerous awards throughout his career, stating, “He never got too many awards during his lifetime. Why should he care about the Oscars? Both of us were happy to be loved in our country.”

Hema also noted her own lack of recognition for significant performances in films like Lal Patthar and Meera, emphasizing that the nature of their contributions went beyond formal accolades. The enduring affection from fans ultimately holds more importance to them than awards.

Tributes During the Oscars

During the live broadcast of the Academy Awards, various respected figures from the international film community were honored in the In Memoriam segment. This included tributes to notable personalities such as Diane Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Robert Redford, Udo Kier, Rob Reiner, Robert Duvall, Gene Hackman, and Val Kilmer. These tributes aimed to celebrate the legacies of those who have passed away, although the decision to exclude Dharmendra has left some fans and colleagues feeling disappointed.
