Ekta Kapoor Expresses Shock Over Akshay Kumar’s Return Of Fees

The CSR Journal Magazine

Producer Ekta Kapoor has stated that she was taken aback when actor Akshay Kumar returned his payment after one of their films did not perform well at the box office. This revelation was made during the trailer launch event for her forthcoming project, Bhooth Bangla. Kapoor recounted how Kumar personally contacted her, handing over a cheque to offset her financial losses from the film.

During the discussion, Kapoor disclosed that in her extensive career spanning over three decades, she had never before witnessed such an action from an actor. Kumar’s return of the fees was described as exceptional, given that the financial risks in the film industry typically fall upon producers.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred following the lacklustre performance of one of their previous collaborations, although Kapoor refrained from naming the specific film. She shared that Kumar’s outreach involved delivering a cheque and stating, “This is money back for you—you’ve lost money.” Kapoor emphasised that throughout her 31-year career, no other actor had undertaken such a generous act.

In an unexpected turn, Kapoor declined the offer of the cheque. She expressed her preference for continuing their professional relationship over accepting monetary compensation. According to Kapoor, this decision played a pivotal role in their eventual collaboration on Bhooth Bangla.

Kapoor’s refusal of the money reflects her belief that future projects would provide more substantial returns than a refund. Her long-held aspiration to team up with Kumar again has now materialised, marking the reunion in Bhooth Bangla.

Overview of Bhooth Bangla

Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, signifies the return of the filmmaker and Kumar to collaborative filmmaking after a significant interval. This horror-comedy centres on a character who inherits a bungalow, only to find that it is haunted, alongside the adjacent forest. The storyline escalates when the protagonist decides to marry in a village that lives in fear of a mysterious entity known as Vadhusur.

The film includes a diverse cast, featuring prominent actors such as Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Kapoor and Kumar have previously enjoyed successful collaborations on well-known films like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Garam Masala, enhancing anticipation for this new project.

Produced by Akshay Kumar, Ekta Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor, Bhooth Bangla was initially scheduled for release on April 10 but has since been postponed. The film is now set to hit cinemas on April 17, with paid previews commencing on the evening of April 16.
