The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Tarique Rahman, engaged in a gesture of Eid diplomacy this week, marked by Rahman’s message to Modi on Friday. In his letter, Rahman conveyed his hopes that the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr would serve to reinforce the enduring friendship and people-to-people connections between Bangladesh and India. He emphasized that Eid is a treasured occasion that underscores the values of compassion, solidarity, and harmony. Rahman expressed optimism that the celebration would promote peace, prosperity, and happiness for the citizens of both nations and for communities worldwide. This correspondence followed Modi’s own Eid greetings to Rahman and the Bangladeshi populace.

Vision for a Collaborative Future

In a prior letter dated February 26, Rahman articulated his vision for the relationship between India and Bangladesh, indicating Dhaka’s willingness to advance ties unencumbered by historical challenges. Following his landslide electoral victory, Rahman made three pivotal points regarding the future collaboration. He highlighted the “historic and long-standing” ties between the two nations, pointing out the significance of their shared history, culture, and geography. Rahman affirmed that the people of both India and Bangladesh possess deep-rooted connections and significant commonality.

Addressing Common Challenges

Secondly, Rahman emphasized the importance of both nations addressing existing challenges in a manner that yields mutual benefits for the general populace. He articulated that there is substantial potential for both countries to attain shared interests through cooperative efforts. Rahman expressed a desire to enhance relations founded on dignity, equality, trust, and respect, advocating for a framework of “benefit-sharing” to enrich both nations. He asserted that this collaborative approach could lead to meaningful achievements for their people.

Personal Outreach and Strategic Initiatives

Lastly, Rahman extended a personal outreach to Modi in his letter, acknowledging the Indian Prime Minister’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047. He underscored the necessity for both leaders to revitalize cooperative engagements to foster peace, harmony, stability, and prosperity for their citizens. The reference to Viksit Bharat is particularly noteworthy as the Indian government has commenced integrating this vision into its foreign policy, aimed at bolstering development partnerships with allied nations in alignment with India’s strategic priorities.
