A horrifying case of domestic violence has emerged from Asankudur Khadia Basti under Thakurmunda police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. A 50-year-old man, Subuddhi Dehuri, allegedly killed his wife, Turi Dehuri, by attacking her with an axe following a domestic dispute. The brutal murder has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Murder After Weekly Market Dispute

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Friday evening when Turi returned home from the weekly market. A heated argument ensued between the couple, reportedly fuelled by Subuddhi’s inebriated state. In a fit of rage, he locked the door from inside, picked up an axe (locally known as tangi), and attacked Turi from behind, fatally injuring her.

Fled the Scene After Crime

After committing the murder, Subuddhi reportedly escaped by jumping out of a window. The incident came to light when the couple’s elder son, 23-year-old Pavitra Dehuri, discovered the crime scene later that night. He immediately rushed to the Thakurmunda police station and lodged a formal complaint against his father.

Accused in Custody, Case Registered

Acting swiftly on the complaint, Thakurmunda Police, led by officer Savitri Dalei, reached the spot, recovered the body, and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with case number 118/2025. Subuddhi Dehuri has been taken into custody and is being interrogated.

Public Outrage and Demand for Justice

The brutal killing has sparked outrage in the village, with locals demanding strict action against the accused. The case highlights the ongoing issue of alcohol-related domestic violence in rural India, prompting calls for greater awareness and preventive measures.
