Drunk Driver Hits Delhi Police Constable, Drags Him on Bonnet During Check

A constable from the Delhi Traffic Police was briefly dragged on the bonnet of a car after the driver attempted to escape during a drunken driving enforcement operation. The incident transpired on Saturday in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area, specifically near Bharti College on Lal Sai Marg. Law enforcement officials revealed that the routine check was conducted by Sub-Inspector Gurdeep Singh alongside Constable Mohan Pal.

Driver Attempts to Flee, Hits Constable

Police indicated that a Santro vehicle was stopped for inspection on suspicion of drunken driving. However, the driver attempted to flee despite being signaled to halt. In the course of the escape, the car collided head-on with Constable Mohan Pal. The impact caused the constable to land on the bonnet of the vehicle, where he was dragged for several meters before eventually falling onto the roadway.

Community Assists in Stopping the Vehicle

With assistance from bystanders, the vehicle was ultimately brought to a stop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Nilesh Kumar, a resident of Dwarka Bagdola in Delhi. Fortunately, police confirmed that Constable Mohan Pal did not sustain any injuries during the incident.

Legal Actions and Impoundment of Vehicle

The vehicle involved in the incident has been impounded, and a challan has been issued under multiple sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Charges include drunken driving, red light violation, misbehavior, and dangerous driving, under sections 185, 184, 179, 184, and 209, respectively. Law enforcement officials stated that further legal action would be taken following a complaint filed by the traffic staff regarding the incident.
