Shock spread through Delhi’s Shahdara district late Friday when 27-year-old Gagan was gunned down near his residence, only minutes before he was to celebrate his birthday. The incident happened close to midnight, cutting short what should have been a joyful moment for the young father, whose child was born just ten days earlier.
Father Recalls the Last Moments
Gagan’s father, Vinod Kumar, recounted the incident to the police, saying his son had gone outside to meet a friend. He stated that “Gagan hugged someone, and in that brief moment, the man pulled out a weapon and shot him.” The shooter then reportedly fired two additional shots into the air before fleeing the area.
Police Teams and Forensic Experts Examine Crime Scene
Authorities, including the DCP of Shahdara, crime unit members, and specialists from the Forensic Science Laboratory, reached the site quickly after receiving the alert. Gagan was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death and sent the body for a postmortem examination.
Investigators Look for Motive, Check CCTV
Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage from streets surrounding the crime scene and speaking with residents in an effort to trace the attacker. Police are examining all possible angles, including whether Gagan was lured outside by acquaintances shortly before the shooting.
Sequence of Events Before the Killing
According to early findings, Gagan was on his way to meet a friend when an unidentified individual approached him and shot him in the head at close range. The attack happened just moments before midnight the time he was expected to celebrate his birthday with his family.
Community in Shock After Sudden Killing
The unexpected violence has unsettled the neighbourhood, where many expressed disbelief that a young man known to them was killed so suddenly. Some early statements suggest that Gagan had stepped out at the request of friends, though the motive behind the confrontation remains under investigation.
