Delhi Police SWAT Officer Killed with Repeated Dumbbell Attack, Husband Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

A young Delhi Police commando known for serving in one of the force’s most elite units lost her life following a violent incident inside her home, allegedly at the hands of her husband. The 27-year-old officer, Kajal Chaudhary, died during treatment days after suffering severe head injuries.

Kajal, who was part of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team under the Special Cell, was allegedly attacked on the night of January 22 at her residence in the Mohan Garden area of west Delhi. Police believe a domestic dispute escalated into extreme violence, during which her husband, Ankur, is accused of hitting her repeatedly with a metal dumbbell.

After the incident, Kajal was found in a critical condition and was rushed to Tarak Hospital in Mohan Garden. Doctors later referred her to a private hospital in Ghaziabad due to the seriousness of her injuries. Despite several days of treatment, she succumbed on Tuesday, January 27.

Following her death, police converted an earlier case of attempt to murder into a murder charge. Ankur, a clerk with the Ministry of Defence posted at Delhi Cantonment, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. A senior police official confirmed, “The accused husband has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.”

Information on the Incident

Shocking details of the incident emerged through Kajal’s elder brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street police station. He stated that Kajal had called him shortly before the assault. While the call was ongoing, the situation at her home allegedly turned violent.

According to Nikhil, Ankur began attacking Kajal during the phone conversation. The call was disconnected, and minutes later, Ankur contacted him again.
“He said he had killed her,” Nikhil alleged.

The family has also raised serious allegations against Kajal’s in-laws, accusing them of sustained harassment related to dowry. Nikhil claimed that Kajal was subjected to repeated mental and physical pressure by her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law following her marriage. “Ankur’s family started passing comments regarding dowry almost immediately after the wedding,” he said.

He further explained that Kajal initially lived with her in-laws in Ganaur, Sonipat, but ongoing disputes forced the couple to move to a rented flat in Mohan Garden. Despite this, Ankur allegedly insisted on returning to his parental home. The couple had reportedly come back to their Delhi residence on January 20 for Republic Day-related events.

Husband Took Injured SWAT Officer to Hospital

Police said Ankur took Kajal to a hospital before leaving the premises and later informed her brother of her whereabouts. Nikhil reached the hospital to find his sister unconscious. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Yashoda Hospital in Nehru Nagar on January 24, where she remained under observation until her death early Tuesday morning.

Kajal had joined the Delhi Police in 2022 and was serving as a commando in the SWAT unit at the time of the incident. She married Ankur in 2023. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son.

A post-mortem examination was conducted after Delhi Police were informed of her death by Ghaziabad’s Sihani Gate police station. While investigators are examining allegations of domestic abuse and dowry harassment, police said that no dowry-related sections have been added to the FIR so far.

The investigation remains ongoing.
