Delhi Starts Reverification of 47.5 Lakh Excluded Voters Ahead of Dec 4

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi Election officials have commenced the process of re-verifying over 47 lakh voters whose names were omitted from the draft electoral rolls. This initiative aims to ensure that no eligible voter is inadvertently excluded during the ongoing special intensive revision, as confirmed by Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar. The move comes in response to complaints regarding the draft rolls published on August 31, which allegedly left out several living voters and individuals still residing at their registered addresses.

Resolution of Discrepancies

Kumar reported that approximately 25 lakh of the 33.12 lakh cases involving voters who received notices due to mapping issues or discrepancies have been resolved. He stated, “The booth-level officers have been directed to reverify the voters whose names were not in the draft rolls published after the enumeration phase.” The objective is to ensure that all genuine voters are included in the final electoral lists, which are set to be published on December 4.

Booth-level officers are actively visiting households across Delhi’s 70 Assembly constituencies to address the notices issued to voters whose names appeared in the draft rolls. Additionally, they are tasked with re-verifying the voters whose names were removed from the rolls. Kumar emphasised the importance of this verification process to ensure comprehensive voter inclusion.

Voters who have been excluded from the draft rolls can submit Form 6 to request their inclusion in the final electoral rolls. Kumar also instructed booth-level officers to avoid summarily rejecting cases involving minor errors in voter details, indicating a more lenient approach towards rectifying discrepancies.

Details of Voter Exclusions

Following the enumeration phase, a total of 47.56 lakh of Delhi’s 1.45 crore voters were removed from the draft rolls. The removals were categorised under absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters. Of the total 97.53 lakh voters included in the draft rolls, 33.12 lakh were issued notices due to discrepancies in their personal details or because their records were not properly mapped or linked with the 2002 special intensive revision rolls.

Kumar assured that all 33.12 lakh cases involving notices would be resolved by October 30. He reiterated the commitment of officials to continue the re-verification of excluded voters ahead of the publication of the final electoral rolls on December 4. This proactive approach is intended to address concerns raised by voters and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The re-verification initiative is crucial for maintaining the accuracy of the electoral rolls, thereby fostering public trust in the electoral system. The efforts of the booth-level officers, alongside the cooperation of the voters, are expected to enhance the overall effectiveness of this electoral revision process.
